About Us
Jason Parker was a lifelong Long Beach resident, a devoted husband and father, and someone who quietly made a lasting impact on everyone around him. He was known for his strength, loyalty, and the way he consistently showed up for others—whether that meant supporting his family, mentoring young athletes, or simply being there when someone needed it most. Jason had a natural way of bringing people together, always putting others before himself without ever looking for recognition.
He had a deep love for sports and community, especially when it came to coaching, supporting, and encouraging those around him. Whether on the sidelines, in the stands, or on the court, Jason was the kind of person who made people feel supported and valued. In his later years, he found joy in pickleball—not just in the game itself, but in the connections it created and the people it brought back into his life. A meaningful part of that chapter included reconnecting with Frank Haggerty—Jason’s coach from his childhood—who later became a close friend through pickleball. Frank was deeply impacted by Jason’s passing and played an important role in encouraging the creation of this tournament, helping ensure it would support cancer research.
The Jason Parker Pickleball Memorial Classic was created by his wife, Bernee, as a way to honor his life and keep his spirit alive through something he loved. Together with their children, Kendall and Wyatt, this event represents a deeply personal tribute to a husband, father, and friend who meant so much to so many.
Through this annual event, Bernee hopes to bring the community together in the same way Jason always did—while also raising awareness for cancer and supporting others facing similar battles. It is a celebration of who he was, the lives he touched, and a legacy that will continue to grow through every person who takes part.
